The Cisco 2100 Wireless LAN Controllers come with eight Ethernet ports, two of which can provide IEEE 802.3 Clause 33 (802.3af) Power over Ethernet directly to Cisco lightweight access points.

With performance up to 100 Mbps, the Cisco 2100 Series Wireless LAN Controllers enable small and medium-sized branch offices to deploy collaboration applications such as guest access and mobile voice. While organizations can offer robust coverage with 802.11a/b/g, or higher throughput with 5 times the throughput and unprecedented reliability using Cisco's next-generation 802.11n Wireless Solutions.

Cisco Access Points (they are awesome)

Cisco Wireless Access Points

Aironet access points provide secure, manageable, and reliable connectivity with exceptional range and performance. Lightweight Access Points (LWAPs) operate in conjunction with Cisco wireless LAN controllers and the Wireless Control System.

Cisco Aironet 3600 AP

The Cisco Aironet 3600 Access Points are the industry’s first 4×4 MIMO, 3-spatial-stream access points—designed to deliver mission-critical reliability. Additionally, the Cisco Aironet 3600 is designed to maintain reliable connections at higher speeds, resulting in up to three times the throughput at speeds exceeding 450 Mbps.

Therefore, Cisco claims that Cisco 3600 access points offer up to three times more coverage compared to competing vendors.

The Cisco 3600 AP series features include:

  • 802.11n with 4x4 Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology with three spatial streams. Supports up to 450 Mbps through higher rates for greater capacity and reliability from competing access points.
  • MIMO equalization, which optimizes uplink performance and reliability. Minimizes the impact of signal fading.
  • To improve downlink performance to all mobile devices including one, two, and three spatial stream devices in 802.11n, Cisco ClientLink technology 2.0.
  • Cisco CleanAir technology, which provides high-speed spectrum intelligence to combat performance issues due to wireless interference.

Cisco Aironet 1850 AP

These are the first 802.11n access points to provide self-healing and self-optimizing functions. Similarly, Cisco 3500 wireless access points are designed to deliver the highest performance connectivity for mission-critical wireless mobility.

This way, new Cisco 3500 AP features allow:

  • Interference reduction for 802.11n auto-protection performance.
  • Remote troubleshooting for fast diagnosis and less downtime.
  • Detection of out-of-band wireless channels using novel rogue and non-Wi-Fi detection methods.
  • Wireless policy application with intelligent identification of wireless devices.

Additionally, new capabilities that simplify mobile operations with:

  • Automatic interference mitigation for increased wireless reliability and performance.
  • Upgrade remote facilities for faster troubleshooting and less downtime.
  • Robust security with non-Wi-Fi detection for rogue off-channel actors.
  • Application Policy with customizable alerts to prohibit devices that interfere with the network.
  • Cisco M-Drive Technology.
  • Improve reliability and coverage for legacy 802.11abgh clients > Cisco ClientLink
  • Customer Connections in Mixed Client Environments > Cisco Enhances BandSelect 5GHz
  • Use diffusion to improve wireless multimedia application delivery > Cisco videostream

Still, the Cisco 3500 access points have an internal antenna for office deployments. The Cisco 3500E access points have external antenna connectors and extended operating temperature for use in the harshest environments.

Cisco Aironet 1250 AP

Provides reliable and predictable coverage for robust indoor WLAN environments. Cisco 1252 APs utilize external antennas.
