The WiFi for events in Barcelona that enbex sets up is a complete network: venue survey, backup internet lines, installation, technicians during the event and teardown. We have built networks at Fira de Barcelona, at the Palau Sant Jordi, at FC Barcelona's stadium and at other landmark venues in the city. In Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia we have also built them at theaters and marinas.
Each venue in Barcelona needs a different network. At a trade fair, the stands and session rooms come first; at a concert arena, crowd density and payments; at a stadium, access control, POS terminals and the press. For each type of venue we explain what we set up, with data from projects we have published.
Fira de Barcelona is one of the venues where we have built networks. At a trade fair or a congress, the network serves the stands, the session rooms, the press and the broadcast at the same time, and each service runs on its own network. It is the work we did at KubeCon Europe 2022, at the Feria de Valencia: 215 access points and more than 7,000 devices connected at the same time. We explain it on our page on internet and WiFi for conferences.
We have built networks at the Palau Sant Jordi. At an arena like this, for a concert or a major event, the network has to handle thousands of people at the same time and support payments, access control and the press without their traffic mixing. At the Coca-Cola Music Experience, in Madrid, the network supports cashless payments, access control, the press and high-density WiFi for tens of thousands of attendees, as we explain in the Coca-Cola Music Experience case study.
We have also built the event network at FC Barcelona's stadium. At the Madrid Formula 1 Grand Prix we installed close to 300 RUCKUS access points and more than 60 switches, and the network served more than 3,000 POS terminals, card readers and tablets. We explain it in the Madrid Formula 1 Grand Prix case study.

Before designing, we look at which services depend on the network and what happens if they fail. This is how we approached it at the Madrid Formula 1 Grand Prix:
Payment terminals (POS) at bars and shops
If it fails: Sales stop: queues and direct loss of revenue
How it is protected: Network segmented by area, overlapping access points and traffic prioritization
Access control and accreditation
If it fails: Queues at the entrances and a security risk
How it is protected: Dedicated network profile, isolated from the rest
Staff and production communications
If it fails: Loss of coordination in the operation
How it is protected: Dedicated profile with coverage in the work areas
Management and monitoring
If it fails: Loss of visibility over the network
How it is protected: Separate management network and out-of-band access over 4G
HOW WE WORK
STEP BY STEP
enbex has been setting up WiFi networks for events for more than 15 years and works across Spain, Barcelona included, with its own team. Enrique Romero, co-founder of enbex and head of IP network architecture, has been designing and running networks for events, congresses and broadcast production since 2009. Our technicians hold CCNA, CCNP Enterprise with an SD-WAN specialization and CWNA certifications, among others, and we are a RUCKUS Elite partner. The company is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 14001 and to Spain's National Security Framework (ENS). On every deployment we apply segmentation and loop protection; at large venues such as MADRING, we add out-of-band management over 4G.
It includes the venue survey, network design, backup internet lines, installation, technicians during the event and teardown. If you need to rent WiFi for a specific event in Barcelona, we do that too: we tell you which network you need and we set it up ourselves. You have a single point of contact from start to finish. If the event is in another city, the right service is WiFi for events.
It depends on the size. For a large event, work can start months in advance: at the MXGP of Spain it began with a feasibility study. Installation usually takes 3 to 5 days at a trade fair at IFEMA and 5 to 7 at a large festival; at the Madrid Formula 1 Grand Prix it took 15 days. The sooner we know the venue and the schedule, the more room there is to choose the internet lines and test the network.
There is no fixed number, because the network is sized for each event. We count the devices that will connect at the same time, not just the attendees, and we split traffic into segments. At KubeCon Europe 2022, in Valencia, the network connected more than 7,000 devices at the same time. At the Coca-Cola Music Experience, in Madrid, the high-density WiFi serves tens of thousands of attendees.
We install at least one backup line, from a different carrier when the venue allows it, with automatic failover: if one line goes down, traffic moves to the other. At the New Year's Eve Chimes in Puerta del Sol, the outbound routers were also duplicated. On large deployments we monitor every link in real time from a NOC, so we can act as soon as one degrades.
Yes. We encode the signal and send it to the platform or broadcaster over its own segment with priority. For a TV broadcast, it travels over dedicated links, independent from the rest of the network, like the Divinity signal at the Coca-Cola Music Experience. If you also need the production, see our page on event streaming in Barcelona.
Yes. A marina, a theater or an open-air space usually has no cable ducts or technical rooms for the network. That is why we lay fiber, protect the electronics from rain and dust and power the access points over the network cable (PoE). Where there is no fiber or mobile coverage we use satellite: at the MXGP of Spain we combined 20 Starlink terminals into a single link, as we explain in the satellite internet case study.
Tell us in the message the date, the venue, how many people you expect and which services depend on the network: payments, access control, broadcasting or audience. We will tell you which network we would set up and what backup it needs.
